Dr. Eduardo Fernández

Dr. Eduardo Fernández is a multidisciplinary researcher who combines Biomedicine with Physical Sciences and Engineering to develop new ways to interact bidirectionally with the nervous system.

He is currently the director of the Institute of Bioengineering at Miguel Hernández University of Elche, the Biomedical Neuroengineering Group of CIBER BBN (Biomedical Research Network Center in Bioengineering, Biomaterials, and Nanomedicine), and an Adjunct Professor at the John Moran Eye Center at the University of Utah (United States).

He completed his studies in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Alicante (1986) and later obtained a doctorate in Neurosciences (1990).

He has participated in numerous national and international research projects related to the study of the nervous system and the development of new devices that can help improve the quality of life for blind people.

MAIN CONFERENCE

Current Advances and Challenges in Computer Vision

We will review the fascinating process of visual perception and what happens in the brain of a person when they go blind.

We will introduce research related to brain plasticity and the efforts of various laboratories to develop new electronic devices capable of interacting with different parts of the visual pathways.

We will review some of the advancements made in the field of computer vision that can help improve the quality of life for blind individuals and enable them to perceive the environment around them.

We will discuss some of the current limitations and the main challenges that still remain to be resolved.
