About us
We are an international non-profit organization, established in 2008, primarily composed of optometrists, although it also includes other professionals. We focus on visual development and behavior, as well as vision therapy and rehabilitation.
Our goal is to foster a community where each member not only acquires knowledge but also contributes, growing together both professionally and personally. This space is designed to share, collaborate, and move towards a more promising future for our profession and our patients.
As optometrists who adopt a developmental approach, our work focuses on understanding how the visual system influences development, learning, and human behavior, as well as its interaction with the environment. This approach considers vision as an integral part of the individual, rather than a separate system.
For this reason, we evaluate, diagnose, and treat vision from a comprehensive perspective, examining its relationship with other sensory, motor, and cognitive aspects of the body, as well as its influence on the person's overall experience and their connection to the environment.
We base our approach on a fundamental premise: vision is not an innate skill, but rather it develops throughout life. Therefore, if it has not been properly cultivated, it is possible to work on its improvement and enhance a person's visual abilities and skills through appropriate vision therapy and rehabilitation tools.
At SIODERV, we promote excellence in Developmental Optometry, Vision Therapy, and Rehabilitation, and we work to foster knowledge, training, and the development of Developmental Optometry, always with the goal of providing the best visual care to patients of all ages: infants, children, and adults.
This allows us not only to optimize visual skills but also to offer solutions to visual problems that affect babies, children, and adults. Our philosophy is based on the premise that vision is a dynamic and constantly developing process. We are not born with fully functional vision; rather, it is built over time through experience and learning.
Likewise, the Clinical associates of SIODERV (SC) are optometrists who have demonstrated a high level of competence in Vision Therapy and Rehabilitation and have successfully completed an evaluation process to obtain this distinction.
To ensure the highest quality in visual care, SIODERV has a rigorous certification process for optometrists specialized in Vision Therapy and Rehabilitation. Those who successfully complete their certification receive the title of Fellow of SIODERV (FSIODERV), a recognition that validates their training and commitment to excellence in the field of Developmental Optometry.
At SIODERV, we support continuous learning and professional growth. Optometry students interested in Vision Therapy and Rehabilitation can join our community to expand their knowledge and discover more about this exciting area of specialization.
