At its biennial congress SIODEC presents 5 different categories of awards and recognitions:
1º. THE DON QUIJOTE AWARD
This award recognises personal or institutional support for Behavioural Optometry, both in Spain and abroad and is open to both members and non-members of SIODEC. Those who have previously received this award may not be nominated for it again.
The award winners are nominated by members of SIODEC.
The committee is made up of:

A person on the Board of Directors of SIODEC, preferably the President.

The person who received the Robert and Linda Sanet prize at the previous SIODEC Congress.
-
A member of SIODEC chosen by the President.
- One member of SIODEC appointed by the President’s office.
Previous winners of the Don Quijote Award:
- 1st SIODEC Congress (Montserrat, 2008): Dr Jorge Ferré.
- 2nd SIODEC Congress (Majorca, 2010): Rosina Uriarte.
- 3rd SIODEC Congress (Seville, 2012): Centro de Optometría Internacional (COI).

- 5th SIODEC Congress (Toledo, 2017): María J. López.
2º. THE ROBERT AND LINDA SANET AWARD
To eligible for this award it is necessary to be a member of SIODEC and an expert in Developmental and Behavioural Optometry with sufficient clinical experience. Candidates must be professionally active and those who have already received the award cannot be re-nominated.
This award is the highest clinical recognition our colleagues can receive for their contribution to the development of Behavioural Optometry both in Spain and overseas.
The award winners are nominated by members of SIODEC.
The committee is made up of:
- Robert and Linda Sanet.
- A person on the Board of Directors of SIODEC, preferably the President.
- The person who received the Robert and Linda Sanet prize at the previous SIODEC Congress.
- One member of SIODEC appointed by the President’s office.

4º. PRESIDENT’S AWARD
This accolade is awarded to a professional in recognition of their services to SIODEC.
It is solely and exclusively decided by the person presiding SIODEC. Furthermore, it is not obligatory and may go unawarded.

5º. THE AUDIOVISUAL AWARD
The Award for the best Audiovisual Product related with Behavioural Optometry is presented to the video that most successfully defines what Behavioural Optometry is and the outcomes it achieves. The video may be objective (showing real cases – people or equipment) or subjective (showing the ideas or concepts best able to describe what it is the behavioural optometrist does or the results of his/her activities on patients). Every year the competition focuses on a different topic.
The Award Panel is made up of the members of SIODEC’S Communications Committee and the President. The Panel’s job is to assess every participating video and give it a mark out of 10 based on criteria such as its message (the idea transmitted by the video), originality and quality.
